Album - Big Sean “Detroit 2”
Big Sean's album "Detroit 2" is both, a love letter to the city, and a result of the polished growth to the city's trademark sound. Sean, alongside producer Hitboy, showcase the potential of the true Detroit rap-scene. Throughout each song, Sean maximizes every bar and what concludes is a 21-song missive to the city he loves.
What's best about this album is the amount of time you can tell Sean has devoted to the craft of this album. As each line, can at times, seem filled with a year's worth of backstory, it shows Sean Don searching for his equivalent to hip-hop perfection.
While a tad heavy on the feature side, one can never say that a feature feels out of place or "wrong" as songs such as "Wolves" feature Post Malone, which on paper can seem iffy at best, but in execution is the perfect accompanying voice to the track.
This album also creates an emotional journey for its listeners as well. With songs such as "Friday Night Cypher" allows for a sense of pride to Detroit residents, "Deep Reverence" provides a goosebump inducing verse from the late Nipsey Hussle, and stories from entertainment legends such as Dave Chappelle and Stevie Wonder provide listeners into entertaining insight to the minds of the iconic people of present and past generations.
What's concluded is an fantastic album, which could very well be Sean at the peak of his powers. A necessary note that all music lovers should give a chance to hear.
