Dani Darling is somewhat of a musical imaginative, shifting between soulful, R&B, poetic, and jazz. She’s an atmospherically altering performer, where her presence changes the air surrounding her audience. So when this air of harmonious magic gets recorded in project format, one can’t help but enjoy the beautiful results that follow. Such is the case with Dani Darling’s latest release, The Future. A six-song ep showcasing each of the band’s limitless talents.

Darling knows that the tale behind the content matters just as much as the content itself. And her songwriting reflects this attribute, as The Future, if nothing else, is an artistic experience in verbal visualization, where Darling expertly crafts sounds that resemble world-building while harmonically providing sample-worthy vocals comparable to the Badu's of the world.

In terms of the content itself, The Future manages to capture her core elements of atmospheric music while showcasing a shmorgishborg of diversity in sounds. Whether it's the beautifully observant intro "The Sublime." Or the charismatically fun "La Femme." Darling's diversity of sounds are present but is never out of place or too sporadic to take the listener out of the moment.

Production-wise you'll be hard-pressed to find something better. To listen to The Future and look at the current industry, you'll find several blank spaces waiting to be filled by Darling's overabundance of talent. The Future is a beautiful album featuring songs that could create a trance-like aura if played from beginning to end.

Perhaps a front runner for album of the year, you can listen to the album here.
