Song Review - “007 Wit The Afro” By Curtis Roach Ft. Illingsworth

Curtis Roach’s music is reminiscent of the cool kid in class. No matter what he says, you know there’s a level of charm and an undeniable level of charisma that attracts everyone to him. Musically, we last heard from Roach in 2022, when he released three songs, “Troo,” “Where The Money At?” and “Old Antique Shop.”

This year. The Detroit emcee releases “007 Wit The Afro.” a fun, sonically pleasant track highlighting Roach’s host of styles and playfully-fun lyrical ability.

This song is a prime example of what Roach does best. He hypnotizes you with his flow, and before you realize what took place, you’ll find yourself enjoying a track without analyzing the substance.

The hypnotism is not a knock on Roach, as his style is simply that silky smooth and damn near flawless. While this song is lyrically fun, it takes around two or three listens before you appreciate how he’s piecing together his lyrical symphony. The guy has a knack for making two-minute tracks feel like a fun skit in all the best ways.

On this track, Roach collaborates with Detroit producer Illingsworth, who creates an equally infectious soundtrack to Roach’s bouncy-pocket-flow.

Production-wise, it’s the perfect complementary piece to Roach’s ability. The drums are patterned to allow Roach several options in his lyrical pocket. While the melody of this song is straightforward, it’s the necessary component for the track to thrive.

The production is pop-ish, innocent, and not too daring. However, no song of this caliber, nearing the summer, should shy away from those traits.

Curtis Roach once again provides quality, high-caliber music for fans to have a good time. You can listen to the song here.
