Review - Victoria Monét “Jaguar”

Victoria’s Monét’s debut album “Jaguar” is a sonically colorful album designed to showcase the Sacramento artist as a future R&B powerhouse. The 27-year-old singer provides catchy songs, moments of infectious positive emotion, and an album stacked with high replay value.

The positives regarding this album are plenty, as Monét displays an eclectic range of R&B styles, whether that’s uplifting songs or sexually psychedelic songs such as the album’s opening track “Moment.”

What allows this album to thrive, among other things, is the organic direction of the album. Where thematically, the album ventures at times, its overall presentation is one of design opposed to happenstance. Monét's created a beautifully sporadic project.

If Monét’s vocals are the album’s main dish, then the production is the album’s drink of choice. As it’s often soothing, knowing its role and never outshining the songstress. The perfect wine to its steak, or the Mountain Dew Baha Blast to the Nacho Bell Grande. Whatever you prefer.

The album is quick, only serving nine songs, one being an interlude. An overall treat to those anticipating Monet’s debut, what’s created is an album worthy of every bit of hype and praise.
