Retro Concert Review - Boyz II Men, with Joe and Sharnce
Looking back on 2023, I got to experience so many great shows. Around this time last year, there were a couple of great concerts for which I received photo credentials and took beautiful pictures of artists. However, life was life-ing, so I never got around to reviewing the shows. Almost a year later to date, and they both live rent-free in my mind. So let me take this time to tell you about them.
Firstly, at the Aretha Franklin Amphitheater, Boyz II Men, with Joe and Sharnce, in September 2023. The night was filled with Good Music. Nathan Morris, Wanyá Morris, and Shawn Stockman blessed the stage with nothing short of flawless harmonies, musicianship, and a little of that old-school choreography. It took me back, and it made me miss this sound of RnB. Boyz 11 Men has that music that taps into your emotions and makes you feel something you know.
Whether that feeling was being head over heels in love, sad, sorry, or wanting to shake something. They have it all, and they took us through that journey with them while performing songs such as “Motown Philly,” “On Bended Knees,” “I’ll Make Love to You,” “End of the Road,” “Please Don’t Go” one of the multiple versions of “Uhh Ahh” (ha) and everything in between.
Boyz 11 Men is arguably one of the best RnB groups in the 90s, with record-breaking accomplishments and multiple awards. They are often forgotten when it’s time to mention the best. I grew up listening to their music, being four or five years old, singing with all my heart. Let me be the one to tell you; they paved the way for many and put some respect on their names because artists still can’t do what they’re doing today. The best part of the show, and what just had me chuckling, was when Shawn Stockman took a moment to address the crowd.
He appreciated that we loved “Good Music.” “When I say thank you, for me, I mean it. Because it’s a little deeper than you just buying a ticket and seeing our show. You understand certain things that people in this world don’t. You understand that good music never dies.” He preached to us a little, and I agreed with every word, yelling "PREACH" and "mmmmhmmm" haha. The show was immaculate. Joe did not miss a beat. I truly enjoyed myself and am ready for my next Boyz II Men concert.
