Concert Review - Sean Paul “Greatest Tour 2024”
Last night’s show transported us to Jamaica, and I had a ball on that Island. The night was filled with energetic rhythms, pulsating basslines, and upbeat tempos, which is RIGHT up my alley since I love to move it-move it! As soon as the music started playing, everybody started moving and dancing! I’ve rarely felt anything like this.
Sean Paul is a dancehall/reggae icon. For those who don’t know what dancehall is, it’s an up-tempo style of dance music originating in Jamaica and derived from reggae, and Sean is one of the best who does it, a true ambassador of the game. Dutty (Sean Paul) hit the stage with so much energy, dancing in front of the Jamaican flag draped over the D.J. booth.
As I looked back from the photo pit, fans were twerking, screaming, hands high in the air, and getting jiggy! The Jamaican Icon started the night off with “So Fine,” going straight into his first number-one hit, “Get Busy,” which topped the U.S Billboard Hot 100 for weeks. Paul was joined on stage by his two beautiful female dancers, who moved ever so smoothly with a sensational showcase of flaunt and talent. The crowd went wild!
I watched Millennials try hip movements they had not dared since their clubbing days. I'm sure they would regret it later because, yes... I was one of those millennials.
But it did not matter; THE HITS KEPT PLAYING! and these hips kept moving!
We danced and sang to all the anthems, “Give It Up to Me,” Like Glue,” “Gimmie the Light,” “We Be Burnin'," “I’m Still in Love with You,” “Make It Clap,” among other great songs. The crowd’s energy never faded because he created a never-ending dance party.
At one point, I was up on the balcony to take a couple of photos, and the fans were moving and bouncing so much that the balcony was also moving and shaking. I was scared, and I went back to the floor immediately.
The party starter ended the night with his other number-one hit single, “Temperature,” and left the party going as he exited the stage; the DJ played a couple more songs as the crowd left the venue, getting the rest of their dance moves out for the night. The show also featured another eminent hot artist, Fariana, my favorite performer. I couldn’t understand a a single word she spoke because she was performing in her language, but I felt every word and proceeded to dance and nod my head with the stank face.
Chi Ching, Rasajai, and more, who gave us some of that original Reggie sound, and DJs earlier in the night who rocked the place, my playlist has grown substantially. The temperature of the night was burnin! Pun intended haha.
