Doja Cat’s album Planet Her. is a mix of raw sexual expression with polished artistic passion. Planet Her features a laundry list of music-heavy hitters. This album, if anything, is an introduction to Doja at the peak of her creative powers.

Is this her “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” or her “Illmatic”? We’re not sure.  Doja’s artistic beauty has reached the magical point where the public’s not sure if we’re seeing her at the height of her glory, but we’re sure enjoying it.

Doja has weaved together the perfect persona, one where every action or motive is not out of the realm of possibility. The beauty of Doja's persona comes through in her artistic expression, where features of Ariana Grande follow Young Thug. Neither is out of character for Doja and glad that it works this way.

However, these features allow Doja to express her creative beauty at her best capabilities. As a J.I.D feature showcase her songwriting prowess, solo songs grant her the freedom to lyrically dominate, and tracks featuring fellow singers provide the option to be a songwriting beauty. “Planet Her” with a run-time just below 50 minutes, we’re forced to take notice of Doja’s ability to piece together an entire album where every sound, feature, and beat feels in place.

The album has a multitude of highlights, one in particular when she’s by herself. Unrestrained, while solo, she’s able to bark off blitzing bars, such as in “Get Into It.” Where she channels her inner Nicki Minaj, rattling off lyrics reminiscent of Roman herself.

Tracks that have artist accompaniment aren’t slouching either. As tracks like “You Right.” Featuring The Weeknd, are sure-fire songs of success, with just a matter of time before they reach commercial success.

Doja has a level of momentum we haven’t seen since Drake, where she’s consistent, powerfully talented, and has begun to reach heights to where we have to have the uncomfortable conversation of where she ranks among current-great musicians.
