Single Review - “Invasion” by Iniko

Iniko is a siren in the best ways. Their voice incites a feeling of achieving victory from a battle one was never supposed to win. So when they release a song like "Invasion," which accompanies the audio aura of a million-dollar movie project reaching its heart-thumping climax.

“Are you ready?

Are you sure?

Are you coming?

You keeping score

What you wearing when they land?

When they start speaking to you, do you understand?

If they challenge you, will you fight?

Are you on the dark side, or the light?

Are you protected? Are you scared?

This shit 'bout to hit the fan, are you prepared?”

On “Invasion,” these are the questions Iniko begs the listener to heed as they open the song with lines that feel more call-to-action rather than Q&A. Iniko finds a way to make this track equally artistically amazing as it is in-depth, as the singer issues warnings while questioning what you will do once an invasion hits your home.

As a singer, Iniko has always maintained the privilege of being a strong songwriter with vocal talent and a great ear for instrumentals. On “Invasion,” the New York City-based artist reaches new heights by letting the triumphant instrumentation guide the song flow. With blaring guitars, pulsing strings, and drums that thump just enough not to make the song overbearing but keep the groove, the track is everything you could want to hear before a game-7 battle or a track to face your fears.

As mentioned before, Iniko’s songwriting skills stand out as an equal to the impressive instrumentals. Lines like “It's a invasion of what you think you understand/ You really think you understand/ But you're so fucking arrogant/ To even think you understand” Stand as metaphors but match so well with the theme of the track that by the song’s conclusion you will find yourself wanting to play the song multiple times just to catch the undertones of each line.

Overall “Invasion” is another tip of the cap to Iniko, who’s impressive run of musical-brilliance continues its stretch of success. You can hear the track here!
