Song Review - Melodies From Heaven by Dej Loaf

Dej Loaf’s progression as an artist is one of hip-hop’s best-overlooked stories. She’s an hybrid rapper that refined her sound and maintained her core audience while remaining an ear-to-the-streets type of performer.

Dej Loaf displays this growth during her latest song, Melodies From Heaven, a sing-song track with near hip-hop influences accompanied by an R&B touch of softness.

Melodies From Heaven is deceptively lyrically dense. Dej Loaf’s lines aren’t impactful on the surface because they take a backseat to her near-hypnotic voice.

However, if broken down, she provides thought-provoking commentary on each of her bars.

“More money, more problems, that’s all on me/ My momma, my money, that’s all I need.”

While the line I picked is good, it could very well be on the lower half of the spectrum of jewels that she provides throughout this song. Dej Loaf is still incredibly poetic, and this song, if nothing else, is a good reflection of her penmanship evolution.

The production of this track is an excellent accompaniment to the song’s overall mood, and that’s once again a nod to Dej Loaf’s knack for matching a song’s emotional atmosphere. She’s always paired the necessary beat with the correct verbal score. This song reflects her second nature to succeed at that aspect of music.
