Song Review - “No Fucks” by Jovie

It’s interesting to see the musical resurgence of Jovie within Detroit hip-hop. As an artist, Jovie has always been one of the best lyricists in the game.

However, since 2023, it seems he's dead-set on reestablishing himself as a whirlwind powerhouse within the Detroit scene.

While we could only theorize if his song “The Upgrade” is a leadup to an upcoming project, his follow-up track “Zero Fks” is a surefire indicator that an official project is set to go. We can only wait for the release.

"Zero Fks," once again places Jovie in his most comfortable position, with a great beat, a microphone, and 1:30 of your time. These are all the ingredients needed for Jovie to make a lyrical splash and again force you to reconsider if your favorite rapper is TRULY your favorite rapper.

One of the best things about Jovie, outside his penchant for great beat selections, is his sharp flow. For my MMA fans, his flow is reminiscent of a Khabib Nurmagomedov-level of pressure. He rarely pauses or breaks in the action, instead addressing each moment as a knife fight with the beat, and he's determined to win.

“Being accepted was never part of the plan, I just learned to get away from them niggas far as I can.”

Whether bars like this are a subtle reminder that he doesn't work with most rappers in the hip-hop scene or flat-out refuses, this song is a reminder that he doesn’t need to. From a talent perspective, he can be classified as above them when its bar-for-bar.

While the song is brief, once again, having no hook. Jovie makes his point, reminding everyone that he’s the boogeyman of Detroit hip-hop.  You can listen to the song here.
