Single Review - “Sad Bitch, Bad Bitch” by Iyla

“Sad Bitch, Bad Bitch” by Iyla is a creative blend between trap beats and R&B lyrics. In some way, trap and R&B have always remained flirtatious. The hard-hitting drums typically allow the often-delicate nature of R&B to explore more Sasha Fierce-esk influence of outlandish freedom. This essentially is the story of “Sad Bitch, Bad Bitch.”

This single is a farcry from Iyla’s 2020 album “Other Ways To Vent.” Where she explored sounds that were powerful in their execution but timid in their presentation. Songs like the album’s opener “Tattoo Tears” bared Iyla as an open book, stripped for vulnerability. However, those who picked apart the album lyric for lyric will gleefully tell you that this “Sad Bitch, Bad Bitch” motto has always been there for the singer, as songs like “Naked Girl” explore these themes with a marksman’s touch.

However, speaking of the song itself, it’s nearly three minutes of fun and bad-bitchery. She embodies that of an early 2010s Rihanna, unapologetically savage and willing to let anyone with a pulse recognize her excellence. Additionally, she matches this aura by remaining lyrically impressive as well. She takes her time and executes lines that once before would have seemed more like a chore than a declaration of arrival.

Overall, this song is very good. That’s the simplest way I could put things at least. Go put this on your playlist and enjoy every second.
