Album Review - “When the Good Starts to Fade” by Fernando Silverio Solis
“When the Good Starts to Fade” by Fernando Silverio Solis, for lack of better words, feels comfortable. In a simple three-track project, Solis’ finds the visceral, emotional release that accompanies the mental rollercoasters associated with nostalgia. Through each song, Solis occupies emotional pockets that are compelling and solicits empathy through relatability. He crafts a powerful yet soothing piece of art.
On the opening track, “Are You, Happy Here.” Solis keeps his voice composed between a low-compelling storyteller to raspy-powerful. Solis's voice seemingly pleads for inner strength while singing as if addressing an all-too-familiar story. Solis orchestrates a breathtaking performance that demonstrates his ability to create songs with a rapper's touch of storytelling and the emotional connect of an exceptional R&B singer.
Solis’ exploration of sound covers a range of sonic territory, such as the acoustically sobering title track “When The Good Starts To Fade.” His ability to connect with the listener is second to none as the tone of the song is both composed while expressing regretful anguish where he sings, “it’s the kind of thing where your friends have no words to pick you up, God it just makes it worse.”
Although only three songs, you’ll find yourself replaying more than just the songs, as his often pain-taking deep breaths come across as regrettably understanding.
One additional highlight of this album is the instrumentation of the project. Songs like the aforementioned “When The Good Starts To Fade.” Feel the room with dynamic yet warm guitar chords. Each note feels as if it’s creating a scene for the story Solis paints through the music.
Overall, “When the Good Starts to Fade” by Fernando Silverio Solis is a highly replayable one. Solis occupies a space of songwriting that captures emotional pictures reminiscent of a conversation with your best friend. Along with top-tier instrumentation, “When the Good Starts to Fade” is universally enjoyable music.
