Concert Review - Trevor Jackson at The El Club
If you don’t know by now, let me introduce myself. Hi, my name is Lori, and I’m a concert junkie. My favorite types of concerts include intimate space, live band, R&B preferably, crowd interaction, and the mic absolutely must be on!
Well, I went to my first concert of the year at the El Club in Detroit on January 25th, 2025, featuring Trevor Jackson, and when I tell you this show checked all the boxes and more!
Full disclosure. Until the beginning of last year, I had no idea about Trevor Jackson, the artist. I knew him as the cutie actor from the TV show "Grown-ish." I did check out the album a few times. However, like the true fans in the building, I did not know every word.
Yall, I fell in love. This show has 100% set the bar for the rest of the year.
From the start, with his opening acts, Citi Limitz, Paris LaDame, and Nick LaVelle. They set the vibe. I enjoyed the set and the energy. I got introduced to this raw talent, and they gained a fan out of me that night.
It’s Complicated is Trevor’s newest album, with 17 songs. My favorites that he performed were “Be Want You Want,” “Yo Body,” “Happy Home,” “All the Way,” “Jog Your Memory,” “Remember the Time,” “Heads Up,” and “Find Out.” If I’m being honest, I could keep going. However, go check out the album. It is a great body of art.
I could keep going haha, it’s a great body of art. He also blessed us with songs from his earlier albums, like “Puddles” from Rough Drafts, Pt 2, and “Right Now” from Rough Drafts, Pt 1. Of course, he did not leave out his T-Mixes, which are remixes to the songs we love, like “Water” by Tyla or “Under the Influence” by Chris Brown. They are on his socials, and like I said, I fell in love.
Let me explain; buddy can sang! The mic was definitely on! He is an incredible talent! And he played that guitar like it was nobody’s business. Getting you wrapped up in a trance. The band was fire! His set was an hour of straight bliss. He created such an enchanted experience; it was so personal, and you could feel his energy throughout the building.
I love artists who are passionate about their work and their fans and love to cater to them and give back that energy they receive, and he did just that. Whether it was holding their hands, dancing with them, jumping into the middle of the crowd, or locking eyes and staying focused on that one lucky young lady staring into her soul while serenading her.
He also got really intimate with us while performing his song dedicated to his father, “Beer with Dad,” and took the time to pour into us some affirmations.
“I was born love, I was born beautiful, I was born art.” Ladies, honestly, you must check him out. Unfortunately, this tour is ending, with only one more show left in L.A., so be on the lookout for future endeavors. I didn’t get the pleasure of meeting Trevor this time around. However, his energy is a humble, positive, and goofy soul, and it showed throughout his amazing performance.
Yes, I have completely gone down a rabbit hole of playing catch up with his music, and yes, you can bet you will see me at the next tour with my ish together, singing every word.
